Urgent Report From The Sudan:

After distributing tens of thousands of meals and making a Life-Saving Relief Trip to multiple desperate villages weeks ago in Southern Sudan our International Emergency Relief Team returned this past week to bring more desperately needed food and supplies to the children and families that no other relief groups have been able to help.

The team leader sent in his shocking account of the trip and Sudan just days ago:

“Yet another chapter of human destruction and suffering is unfolding in Sudan. Horrendous bombing attacks on civilian villages in the Nuba Mountains, combined with a critical food shortage and subsequent famine are having a devastating effect on the population. It would seem that the region is heading towards catastrophe.

Many children are severely malnourished or sick.

Thousands of men, women and children are making their way south on foot; many children are severely malnourished or sick. Over a thousand people arrived this past Sunday at the Yida camp in South Sudan, home to 40 000 displaced people, which in itself is an extremely tough place to survive. A further 20 000 are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

More than 80 bombs were dropped in South Sudan in recent days (this past Saturday, Sunday & Monday) with reports of continued bombing again yesterday (Tuesday), all this while the leaders hold peace talks in Addis Ababa.”

“Because of the confusion and lack of food in the villages many children are scavenging the ground and nearby trees to find anything they can to eat. Many of them have resorted to eating leaves as that is the closest thing to a meal they could find. Thankfully we were able to provide these children and any family that they had with real food.”

The team faced many challenges on the trip as they traveled to find lost and forgotten villages who had given up all hope. Because of the team’s work, made possible by CHRF Donors, we were able to reach these villages and reassure them that there are people in the world who care about them and will not give up on their lives.

Despite a few bumps and bruises along the way the team was able to complete their mission by providing even more mosquito nets, food, supplies and subsequently, hope to the hopeless, then even we had hoped for!

But there is still an urgent need, beyond just the life-saving meals that CHRF Donors have helped to provide to thousands of children and their families.

“A very critical need right now is mosquito nets. Malaria is one of the biggest killers in Africa, the rains have started and unless you have some protection from a net you will get bitten. One needs to be under a net by early evening. For us Westerners, we have access to medicine and treatment, but these children don’t.”

Without the help of Children’s Hunger Relief Fund Donors, like YOU, Life-Saving Emergency Relief Trips like this most recent one into the Sudan would not be possible. We work together, You and CHRF, to form a team that is dedicated to providing food to the hungry, help to the sick, love to the lost, and God’s eternal love and care to the forgotten children of the world. Thank you for joining us in one of the world’s most important causes.

This week the CHRF Emergency Relief Team continues to be the bridge between your helping hand and the world as they distribute food and supplies throughout the desolate areas of Ethiopia where children and families desperately are fighting to avoid starvation. Continue to read the updates, pray for the team and join the team by making your support for Sudan and Ethiopia today!
